Spalding Male

(Pavo cristatus hybrid spalding)

This hybrid is across between a Green peacock and a Black Shoulder hen. Mrs. Spalding of California is credited with creating this bird. The physical characteristics will vary from bird to bird due to being a hybrid. The crest of Spaldings is shorter and tighter than the Greens' long tapered crest. Facial skin is predominantly white with a patch of yellow. The neck and legs are longer than the India Blue. The Spalding is a larger bird over all than the India Blue due to the fact that it has 50% Green blood. Spalding bred to Spalding do not breed true.
